Clif Bar 2-mile Challenge
Clif Bar has started a great campaign called the 2 Mile Challenge. The idea is that 40% of urban travel in the US is less than 2 miles per trip. If people would bike more for some of these trips it will improve their health and save on car emissions, which is good for our air, too. Clif Bar's 2 Mile Challenge has some fun features to educate and entertain, including a slick Google Map to show you how far a two mile radius can get you in your town. Here's mine:
Clearly, I can easily bike anywhere within the bypass and downtown in the Big O. It's true that their are plenty of banks, drugstores, grocery stores, and restaurants within my 2 mile radius. So, the trick is to try and slowly change my thinking to bike somewhere instead of hopping in the car. However, I don't think I'll be lugging my month's worth of groceries home on the bike,
but I will use my cloth bags more often at the grocery. Every little bit helps!
