TGIF

Friday and Payday! Can it get much better? Well, it can if a bike ride is included. I came home from work and the sun was out and not too cool. I decided to ride my bike to the Healthpark for a workout and then pick up some dinner on the way home. Nice way to start the weekend.

Founder of Trek Bicycles, R.I.P.

Richard "Dick" Burke, the founder of Waterloo, WI-based bike company, Trek Bicycle Corp., passed away Monday, 10 March 2008. He was 73 years old. In 1976, Richard Burke founded the company in a red barn, about 30 miles east of Madison. Trek is, arguably, most famous for making the bikes that Lance Armstrong rode in his Tour de France victories.

The company — known for brands including Trek, Gary Fisher, Klein and Greg LeMond — has grown to $700 million in sales, in the 32 years it has been making bikes. It still builds many of its bikes in Wisconsin, with only the lower end bikes being made in Asia.

Slacking

Well, I've been slacking with the blogging for almost 3 months. And I didn't quite meet my goal of biking 500 miles outside last year. So, I'm back to blogging and raised my goal to 750 miles this year. However, I am training again for a few more triathlons and I've been back to spinning classes at the local gym.

Today, it was so nice I had to ride to work today. It was about 50 degrees this morning and over 60 on the way home.

2008 Year to Date Mileage: 3.6 miles
Miles to reach 2008 goal of 750 miles: 746.4
