O'boro Bike Club Monday Night Ride

Made it out to the extremely originally titled, Monday Night ride at Waymond Morris Park. Rides will start at 6pm starting next week. All are welcome. It's a flat, 18 mile, loop course. Tonight I brought up the rear. I know my running and winter training have made me a better rider this year, but apparently, no one else took the winter off and improved, too. Darn!

Spring Time Trial #1

Met at the back entrance of Panther Creek Park for a fast, flat loop time trial. I had never done a time trial, but wanted to see where I stood in terms of endurance, speed, and discipline at the start of my "season". There were about 10 of us attempting this. Each rider left in 2 minute intervals, starting from a dead stop, with a push start.

I completed the 9.90 miles with 75’ of elevation course in 31:06 with an average speed of 19.1 mph. I'm pretty happy with that, at this point in the "season". Now, we'll just have to see if I can improve on that...

Why bike...?

There are so many good reasons to ride a bike, but today's reason was biking to blow off steam from a stressful day at work. I'm all for change, I work in IT, so we are changing all the time. I just don't understand why we have to stop thinking and caring about people while going through the process. We work with computers, but are not computers ourselves.

Anyway, beautiful day today, sunny, 70's, St Patty's Day. It can't get much better than that.

Owensboro Bicycle Club Time trials #1 Wed. at 6pm backside of Panther Creek Park. Riders do a 9.9 mile loop and leave every 2 minutes. Should be interesting!!!

Today's Mileage: 10.8 miles
2009 YTD Mileage: 49.4 miles
Miles to 2009 goal of 1,000 miles: 950.6

Spring is here?!?!?!

Woke up and it was such a nice day already, I went for a bike ride before doing anything else. The sun was shining and the birds were all singing. I headed out Griffith Ave to Shifley Park, where I caught the Greenbelt to the softball complex. From there, I headed out West Fifth Ave towards Sorgho. My legs felt pretty good, but were getting a work out in the wind. It was out of the SW at 25 mph, so basically, right in my face. However, I knew it would be behind me on the way back, so I pushed on.

Made it out to my goal - the Green River. Stopped for some water and watched the river for a few minutes meandering along. Then it was time to head back home the way I had come. My legs felt pretty good and still had acceleration left in me. I also appreciated some help from the wind. It was so nice to finally be outside and have the temps in the high 60s. I certainly hope this weather is here to stay. Monday night club rides should be starting since this weekend is Daylight Savings time, too.

Commute to Work

It was finally going to be warm, for a change, so I decided to pull out the panniers and commute to work. It was about 40 degrees in the morning, but warmed to the 60s by quitting time. However, there were 20 mph winds out of the SSW - in my face the whole way home. Still, it was warm and great to be on the bike riding outside. Makes me hopeful for more consistent riding weather.

2009 YTD Mileage: 13.43 miles
